During the spring of 2025, Kansas City community members gathered at the garden of Nancy Susan Gordon, where they learned how to construct with wattle-and-daub: a technique involving the weaving of a framework and infilling with a mixture of clay, sand, and long natural fibers (in this case, straw).
Over the course of a few weekends, participants played in the mud, ate communal meals, played music, and constructed the first wall of a cottage building! Check out some moments from the workshops below:
*This is an ongoing project, and there will be more opportunities to get involved in the near future.
